Some heavier riffs, several tempo changes and a catchy double chorus round off the song nicely. This would still be another average tune if this was a shorter song but the excessive running time of over twelve minutes unintentionally reveals the blatant lack of ideas. Almost seventy, this hard rock singer didn’t lose a single thing in his very Dio-like singing, very harsh and powerful and is still able to deliver us powerful melodies in “A Restless Heart and Obsidian Skies”, another power-ballad in the same vein as “Draconian Love”. Yeah, the rest is awful. The album opens with an explosion of hammy orchestrations and booming choirs, exactly like what you’d expect to find during Meat Loaf’s most cringe inducing pieces, but “Mystery of a Blood Red Rose” sets the stage nicely for the in your face bombast the rest of the record throws at you. It was actually a song which was penned for Meatloaf, but he declined it, and vhostlights, it’s a lesser type of Meatloaf song. If anyone doubted Sammet can write high quality power metal, those doubts are long gone by the time Michael Kiske takes his soaring first notes in the epic title track.
Whats Left Of Me Avantasia has no right to be releasing an early favorite of mine for the year, but here they are. Seeing this poll high on a few end of year lists, I thoughts – fairly reasonably- that this could be pretty good.
Secudtion Of Decay The likes of “Unchain the Light” and “Lucifer” being incredibly well thought-through and fluid compositions.
The bass here is very present and the singer is Geoff Tate. The new Avantasia epic is a fantastic release that comes close to being the best album of the long running project. Piano and singing are well balanced, the drum ghsotlights is excellent the error would have been to fill it with too many snare hits and guitar melodies aren’t off-topic. Today the fans finally get the epic single ‘The Raven Child’.
This masterpiece explores a whole range of themes whilst keeping to a traditional song structure. It is not perfect and it is not one of the best Avantasia epics, but it is still an absolute highlight.
With a title as magical as that, I wanted an enormous, mystical journey – not a directionless, monotonous half-ballad. This would be also a very good song for introducing someone to metal: Ghostlights is a monument, and I say that through clenched teeth and a mouthful of foot.
Avantasia, ‘Ghostlights’ – Album Review
Everything just sounds so much more fully realized and deep, and there’s a lot more going on in these songs than just a catchy chorus hook — every note is powerful and rich. This being said, Tobias Sammet doesn’t even get remotely close to the impressive vocal skills of the legendary rock singer. The only avantasiia duds are the painfully dull “Isle of Evermore” and the sluggish and way-too-damn-long “Seduction of Decay”, but those are pretty heartily offset by the fiery epics of “Let the Storm Descend Upon You”, “Master of the Pendulum”, and “Babylon Vampyres”, which themselves are complemented by some great ballads and some bombastic rock opera.
Marco Hietala, Tobias Lead guitar: Still the new album is a very impressive release and a future classic. Especially the chorus is nothing ghoatlights if you compare this track to those previous ones. ghostlivhts
AVANTASIA – more details on »Ghostlights« revealed!
It’s not very reasonable to start a song with a one minute intro, and then do a second overture, and have the first chorus after three-and-a-half minutes, but I don’t think you perceive it as something that doesn’t make sense.
The track starts out as a ballad, featuring Jorn and Tobi trading lines, accompanied solely by a piano. The tempo revives itself to true power metal pace, and the German’s vocals utterly soar among the clouds – especially in that avzntasia chorus!
Avantasa strength of Avantasia was always to put various singers together in one song. The musically dynamic tracks just manage to hold their heads up above the surface of the sea of dullness underneath. Sammet describes the early version of “Seduction of Decay” as “an epic heavy metal version of ‘ Black Dog ‘” meant for a singer like the young Robert Plant.
Sharon Den Adel, Tobias The other issue with Ghostlights is that the songs sound like other metal bands.

This album is good, especially if you’re reading the lyrical avatasia. Not valid for merchants. That’s something the album in general is extraordinarily good at, almost every song manages to be over before you truly want it to be barring a few obvious exceptions. The whole song just developed. For Ghostlightsthere are a wide variety of guest vocalists.
